Tasting Notes
Fruit coming from three sites. Carignan from Case Family, Grenache from Watkins Family and Shiraz from the Small Block (Ballandown Road) property. Each variety fermented and matured in oak separately, married together three months prior to bottling in stainless steel. Carignan was pressed early to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Lots of ripe summer berries with a hint of savory earthy tones. The Grenache and Shiraz were treated more traditionally. Approx 20% whole bunches used in each to help lift the aromatics and reduce tannin extraction. Once dry, pressed into neutral Franch and Hungarian Oak Barrique. I describe this wine as being ‘sappy’. A medium to full mouth feel with soft, delicate tannin, it lingers nicely with acidity that refreshes without washing away the beauty. One of my personal favourites to date.
